Tropical oceanic currents move warm and low salinity water from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean, making for a unique,

highly diverse and dynamic marineenvironment stretching over 160km along the coast of Borneo, Indonesia, an area of almost

300,000 hectares was declared a marine protected area comprising of tropical islands with vibrant coral reefs, offering

magnificent underwater landscapesand a critical protein supply for people across Indonesia, Malaysiaand the Philippines.

 

As one of the most biologically rich and intact marine ecosystems in all of Indonesia,this region is a top priority for marine

conservationand is presently under threatfrom illegal fishing,wildlife poaching, pollution, and unregulated tourism.

Global conservation is the only international NGO focused on protecting this marine ecosystem.
